Some great views can be had from this point, by the small warning beacon at the harbour here.
You can see Fira, and in the distance just make out the tumble down arrangement of the white houses along the cliff tops.
Athinios is very much a working harbour / port so you may visit here if taking a scenic trip out to sea, or the volcanic islands in the middle of the caldera. Sailings also arrive and depart from this point to Pireas, Skopelos, Kynthos, Milos, Thessaloniki and many other destinations, so there always is a bustle of activity along the quay.
