A French company built the first lighthouse at Akrotiri in 1892 at the very Southenmost tip of Santorini (Thira ) island.
A pretty square tower 10m high with a house below for the lighthouse-keepers.
During the 2nd World War the light was switched off until 1945 whereafter The Hellenic Navy decided to reconstruct the lighthouse network.
A bracing spot to be, with great views of the main island, and the smaller volcanic ones in the centre of the caldera.
